Leroy was commissioned as a celebration of a spirited companion whose joyful expression and unmistakable personality inspired this portrait. Painted on hand acid-washed steel, the natural patina of the metal became part of the composition, giving the finished work depth, warmth, and a character all its own.
A handcrafted three-dimensional collar was incorporated into the portrait, allowing Leroy's actual tag to become part of the artwork. The subtle sculptural element creates a meaningful connection between the portrait and the dog it was created to honor.

About the Medium
Every Slater Design Studios portrait is hand-painted on acid-washed steel, making each piece completely one of a kind. The natural oxidation, patina, and texture of the steel become part of the artwork itself, creating depth and character that cannot be replicated on canvas or in print.
